Faculty recruitment
Chun Tang has accepted our offer of an Assistant Professor position in the area of NMR/Structural Biology. He wrote:
"With great pleasure and gratitude, I accept your offer as an assistant professor starting on or about April 1st, 2008. I know the next five to six years will be an uphill battle for me. But with the great infrastructure and nurturing environment of MU biochemistry, I believe I can and I will launch a successful and visible career."
Tang's lab will be housed in the new Schweitzer Hall addition, which is scheduled to be completed in late 2007/early 2008. The ground level of the Schweitzer Hall addition will include a statewide facility for a $2.1 million 800 MHz nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer. This instrument has impressive capacity for analyzing macromolecules of medical, agricultural and industrial importance. There are a limited number of these instruments in the country, and there are currently none in Missouri.

Biochemistry faculty member chairs UM presidential search advisory committee
The University of Missouri Board of Curators named 17 individuals to a committee that will interview finalists for the institution's presidency and provide advice to the board. The committee members represent a variety of interests across the University's four campuses, including students, faculty, staff and alumni. "As we seek a new leader, it's important that the board consider the views of those who support the institution every day in so many ways," said Board Chair Don Walsworth. "I'm impressed by the quality, energy and devotion of those who have agreed to serve on the advisory committee." The committee will be chaired by Frank Schmidt, professor of biochemistry at the University of Missouri. He also serves as chair of the Intercampus Faculty Council. "The entire University of Missouri family has a vital stake in this process, and the advisory committee will work to ensure that the next president can work with all of its members," Schmidt said. "We urge all members of the University family and the public to contact any of the advisory committee members with their input. All Missourians have a stake in the success of this search."
