A recently arrived issue of Nature dated August 21 contains a quite favorable review of a book entitled “Bioenergy” edited by our very own Judy Wall and two colleagues.
The department is pleased to announce that faculty fellowships for the 08-09 academic year have been awarded to Bill Folk (for excellence in research, service and international activities, specifically his role in leading TICIPS, the NIH-funded South African study of alternative medicines and AIDS) and Mike Henzl (for excellence in course development and teaching). These awards recognize outstanding contributions to any faculty activity, e.g., research, teaching, extension, service, graduate/undergraduate advisement, with preference for activities in which sources of financial rewards are not otherwise readily available. Potential candidates are identified by the Promotion and Tenure Committee as part of the regular annual review process and awardees chosen by the Chair. Fellowship recipients are provided a cash stipend that is paid to the faculty member as part of the regular payroll process.
