Judy Wall wins mentoring award

The Department of Biochemistry would like to congratulate Dr. Judy Wall on her 2008 Undergraduate Research Mentoring Award. Judy was one of two faculty mentors who received the award this year.
To quote from one of Judy's letters, "When I encountered an obstacle, my mentor was there to propose alternatives, but never told me what to do and how to do it. At first this was difficult and somewhat frustrating, but I quickly realized that a small nudge into unknown territory is better than a shove off a cliff. My mentor's directed guidance, along with the experience of others in the lab and discussion at weekly lab meetings provided just the right level of support and freedom for me to mature as a scientist."
