Vinit Shanbhag, a graduate student in Michael Petris' lab, won the People's Choice Award of the 2017 Molecular Cytology Core Image Contest. His image showed "actin staining with TRITC-conjugated phalloidin and atibody labeling of vinculin at focal adhesion sites in breast cancer cells."
The Molecular Cytology Core Image Contest is held every year during Life Sciences Week. There are three award: People's Choice, Experts' Choice and Best Technically Challenging Image. The People's Choice Award is given to the image with the most votes from Life Sciences Week attendees.
Confocal fluorescence microscopy of focal adhesion and actin cytoskeleton in murine breast cancer cells. Actin (red) was detected using TRITC-conjugated Phalloidin. Vinculin (green) at focal contacts were revealed using anti-vinculin antibody and FITC conjugated secondary antibody. Nuclear counterstaining was revealed using DAPI (blue).
