I am a production chemist in a protein purification group at MilliporeSigma. My job is to purify proteins using a variety of techniques such as extractions, salt precipitations, and chromatography. During processing it is important to track the protein of interest, so in addition it is important to assay materials to ensure purification is successful. My group makes many different products which helps keep variety in my day.
I chose Mizzou because I loved the campus when I went to visit. In addition it has a top biochemistry program; the fit just seemed right to me. As for choosing biochemistry, I have always enjoyed chemistry and biology classes and it seemed to align with my interests.
I was exposed to everything I do at MilliporeSigma during my time at Mizzou. The professors did a great job planning the curriculum to prepare me for when I started my career and I apply a lot of the concepts I learned at Mizzou on a daily basis.
I have always loved being in the lab so it seemed like a good fit for me. I enjoy not having to sit at a desk and getting to problem solve. In addition, there is a lot to learn which keeps me interested each day.
I am working on finishing my masters in biochemistry at UMSL. I plan to stay at MilliporeSigma for the future. I hope to keep learning more each day and to eventually earn more responsibilities there.
