Why Mizzou
There is a great breadth of faculty within the department to work with, and a great collaborative environment. Low cost of living.
Favorite part of Mizzou biochemistry
The faculty is great. I also really enjoy interacting with my classmates. My committee has been great at giving me advice when I need it. Also, any professor that I have had in class, or simply those I meet in the building or around campus, are extremely interested in what I am doing, and will pitch in if I ever need help.
Organizations
I am currently vice president of the Biochemistry Graduate Student Organization (BGSO). I am also a member of ACES, (Alternative Career Explorations of the Sciences), chairing the seminar prep and organization committee.
Best things about Columbia
The parks and the Katy Trail are fantastic for biking and hiking. It's a small town, but has plenty to do. Also the lost cost of living is great.
Outside the lab
I enjoy hiking, biking, soccer, hockey, and cooking.
Career plans
To obtain a post-doc, and eventually a research oriented position within an academic environment.
