Why Mizzou
Mizzou is one of the Big 12. It has abundant resources in several areas, especially in agriculture. The campus is full of diversity and I appreciate that.
Favorite part of Mizzou biochemistry
The Biochemistry department has good funding, a large number of faculty and graduate students, and tight links to agricultural and medical departments. It's great that these departments are located on the same campus. The department is very well organized. For graduate students, it provides care, education, discipline, and generous financial support. There is even a great ombudsman who is ready to hear the concern of the students.
Faculty support
Besides knowledge and funding, my advisors give me great encouragement and advice in both research and student life.
Organizations
I was the GSA (Graduate Student Association) representative of the Department of Biochemistry from 2008-2009.
Outside the lab
Reading, painting, traveling, shopping, and most of all, learning from my colleagues of diverse backgrounds.
Best things about Columbia
With a nice environment and low cost of living, life is peaceful and pleasant here. There are several great places for outdoor living, such as Little Dixie State Park, Katy Trail, etc.
Career plans
Primary choice: scientist; secondary choice: pharmacist or business woman in pharmaceutical area.
